I love anything from the Muji store, honestly it is all just so perfect. I only write on Moleskine pads, not because it is ‘the in thing’ but because it is so simple and perfect. Seeing seamless design inspires me, design that feeds off of nature assuming its form from things which have evolved over thousands of years to be as perfect in the role it is. Good design with good lines, seamless depth and where the function is exposed through the simplest form. I am forever over educating myself in design, even though I’m not formerly educated in it. My own site does not reflect my passion for design but I think this because I spend more time on other projects than my own.
In my mind design isn’t just graphic, industrial, clothing or other. It spans a vast variety of mediums for instance I do a lot of systems architecture and programming and I think about what I do there in a design way. I write my code to be aesthetically pleasing, as well as optimally performing. I think through my architectures carefully creating a taxonomy that describes the subject perfectly with synonyms, antonyms and pluralization in the right place. I like for words to describe the ‘thing’ concisely.
I am inspired by work done for the love of it as opposed to fiscal gain. I love Apple, because they design products they love. In that I look up to a guy like Jonathan Ive, he would be someone I would love to chat to, I am inspired by his passion and the bliss he derives from doing what he does. He is completely humble in his achievement always referring to the achievements as a team effort – not in a corporate bullshit way. His motivation is to do what he has, create superior perfectly sculptured products through his love for materials, methods and design.
As much as I try and deny it I am a web professional – I deny it because I want to work across the boundaries of technology and into the real world all simultaneously – with unhealthy obsession with design consistency across my sites, having my sites flow properly and in the most efficient way is very important to me and I am rather preoccupied with staying on top of web trends and the latest techniques to deliver the best experience to users. I get completely mesmerized by good information graphics and can look at charts and statistics the whole day if it’s been done well.
